Thanks to a collection of set photos from the filming of Doom Patrol, we now have our first look at the TV versions of Robotman, Negative Man, Crazy Jane and Elasti-Woman. The series will join Titans as one of the core new live-action shows produced exclusively for DC Universe, the new subscription service for all things DC that is set to launch on September 15.
Doom Patrol boasts some of DC Comics' strangest superheroes, including Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), a woman with dozens of different personalities that each have different abilities, and two cyborgs: Robotman (Brendan Fraser) and Cyborg (Jovian Wade). Rounding out the team is Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), who can grow and shrink at will, and Negative Man (Dwain Murphy), whose body is radioactive and has the ability to unleash a negatively-charged entity. Their leader is Dr. Niles Caulder (Bruno Bichir), a wheelchair-bound genius, who gathers these lost souls and turns them into a superhero team.
The set photos, gathered by JustJared, show Riley Shanahan (who plays the on-set version of Robotman, while Fraser provides the voice) in a practical costume, as well as Guerrero looking serious as Jane, Bowlby in a stylish vintage dress as Elasti-Woman, and (presumably) Dwain Murphy in full costume as Negative Man. Though the first set photos for Titans received negative backlashover the characters' wigs and costumes, the Doom Patrol actually look pretty awesome - even when they're just wandering around the set.
Doom Patrol recently rounded out its cast by adding Alan Tudyk as the voice of Mr. Nobody, the villain of the series, who is a sentient shadow with the ability to drain people's sanity. We expect to see at least some members of Doom Patrol make their debut in Titans before spinning off into their own series, as both shows are set in the same universe. If both go well, we could see continued crossovers, similar to the way that The CW's DC shows have a special crossover every year.
Doom Patrol and Titans will both be completely disconnected from both the Arrowverse and the DC Extended Universe, since pre-existing distribution rights prevent those shows from being made available on DC Universe. However, in many ways that's a good thing, since it means they can establish their own continuity and tone. We're certainly looking forward to seeing the "World's Strangest Heroes" in action.
Doom Patrol will premiere on DC Universe in 2019
