Following all of the James Gunn drama over the last few weeks, the final decisionby Disney to not rehire him, and the news that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is on a temporary production hold; people have been asking what it’ll mean for the Awesome Mix soundtrack in the movie.
Thankfully all signs are pointing to Marvel Studios keeping James Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and that means it’ll likely include the songs for the soundtrack already. He talked multiple times over the years about how he writes the songs into the script and that’s how it worked with the first two movies
To be fair, Gunn has said that he wouldn’t include the songs in the script if he wasn’t directing, however he did finish the script and deliver it to Marvel prior to what happened with Disney:
Since he wrote the script believing he’d also be directing the movie, it’s likely that the draft he turned into Marvel does include those songs. So unless we hear something to the contrary, the fate of the soundtrack is one thing MCU fans shouldn’t worry about when it comes to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
