Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is set to return but when will season 2 release? Amazon Studios' hit series stars John Krasinski as the titular CIA analyst and detailed his unlikely rise from desk jockey to full-fledged, world-traveling action hero as he foils a Middle Eastern terrorist plot against the United States.
Rounding out Ryan's origin story in season 1, he also meets Dr. Cathy Mueller (Abbie Cornish), who will one day be his wife, and forms a shaky bond with CIA veteran James Greer (Wendell Pierce), Ryan's mentor from the Clancy novels. The inaugural. action-packed 8-episode season left the door wide open for more Ryan adventures, which Amazon is already guaranteed to deliver.
IT'S ALREADY RENEWED FOR SEASON 2
Amazon gave Jack Ryan a season 2 renewal in April, four months before season 1 even premiered! The quick green light was the result of excitement for the series, which began with a popular Super Bowl commercial that lead to a 400% increase in Amazon Prime memberships. Krasinki's hit film A Quiet Place, which he directed and starred in, was another major factor in Amazon's faith in Jack Ryan and its leading man.
Series co-creators and showrunners Carleton Cuse (Lost) and Graham Roland (Fringe) are set to return as creative masterminds of season 2. Of course, Krasinski (who also serves as executive producer) will also be back. In the renewal announcement, Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke announced, "The new season will take our unexpected hero to a new, exciting and dangerous world.”
WHEN JACK RYAN COULD RETURN
Filming for season 2 is already underway and will take place in Europe, South America, and the United States. Cameras were scheduled to roll in the summer of 2018, so production mounted before season 1 premiered on Labor Day weekend. Season 1 began filming in spring of 2017, with the first footage of Krasinski as Jack Ryan released in October. Following a similar production and marketing schedule, fans can expect Jack Ryanseason 2 sometime in the fall of 2019.
SEASON 2 STORY DETAILS
Season 1 ended with Jim Greer transferred to Moscow to serve as station chief, and he invited Jack Ryan to leave CIA headquarters to join him in the field permanently. This was an exciting development for longtime fans as it brings the series closer to Tom Clancy's novels, where the analyst began by pitting his wits against the Russians during the Cold War.
Despite that setup, however, the season 2 details already revealed indicate that "Jack Ryan confronts the forces in power in a dangerous, declining democratic regime in South America." So while the season might begin with Ryan and Greer in Russia, South America looks like the source of the main problems they'll confront. This is also good news for Clancy fans, as the new story is in tune with his best-selling novel and the hit film Clear And Present Danger, where Jack took on the South American drug trade while exposing corruption within the U.S. government.
NEW SEASON 2 CAST MEMBERS
John Krasinski, Wendell Pierce, and Abbie Cornish are all set to return, as well as John Hoogenakker, who played CIA black ops operative Matice. Hoogennakker has been bumped up to series regular. Joining them in Jack Ryan season 2 will be a host of new characters:
Michael Kelly (House of Cards) joins the cast as Mike November, a seasoned CIA officer who will work alongside Ryan. Another big name coming aboard to add more international flavor is Noomi Rapace (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), who plays Harriet "Harry" Baumann, a German intelligence agent who encounters Jack in South America.
Other new cast members already announced include Jovan Adepo (The Leftovers), who plays Marcus, a former Navy special crewman; Cristina Umaña (Narcos), a politician and mother; Francisco Denis as Ubarri, a South American government official; and Jordi Molla (Genius), who plays Nicolas Reyes, the powerful and charismatic leader of a South American nation.
Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan season 1 is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
